  • What issues are addressed?:
  • The lack of representation and equality for women of colour in Australia in the area of leadership and entrepreneurship.
Women of colour experience a double glass ceiling in leadership and pay in Australia.
  • Project Description:
  • Amina of Zaria is a digital platform and private community for women of colour by women of colour (WoC). WoC face a double glass ceiling. Double the barriers and challenges. The platform will link women of colour to mentors, coaches, and sponsors. Analyse their resume and online presence and give them feedback. Link them to jobs and contacts. Helping WoC to close the gap, remove barriers and challenges and to progress. Importantly the platform will provide a culturally and psychologically safe space for women of colour to have conversations then need to have to advance and progress for true equality.
  • Alleviating suffering / disadvantage?:
  • We know that being a woman of colour is challenging enough in the area of leadership and entrepreneurship. This is amplified through being a migrant, a low socioeconomic background and or indigenous. We need to 'see it to be it'. The platform will alleviate suffering by having a culturally and psychologically safe place for women of colour to have the conversations they need to advance and progress in their careers. It will alleviate disadvantage by providing them with tools, a network, and community, sponsors, mentors, and coaches to get a job, start a business and or progress in their career and link organisations with WoC speakers via the platforms speaker agency to increase representation of panels and events. The platform will also work with organisations around systemic racism that may exist in their organisations and in supporting them to provide employment for women of colour.
  • Changing Policy, Practices & Systems?:
  • This project works to change systemic racisim created by organisations that prevent women of colour from gaining meaningful employment and advancing in their careers.
  • Investing in or empowering women?:
  • This project invests in and empowers women of colour through providing a private network and community by women of colour for women of colour as well as online professional development, mentors, coaches and sponsors.
  • Media / Promotion?:
  • This project will work with the media to highlight the double glass ceiling experienced by women of colour to spotlight the wongs the project addresses. The project has a detailed media and communication plan.
  • How is success evaluated / measured?:
  • Success will be measured in June 2020. This will be:
Number of women of colour that are members of the platform
    - Retention rate of members on the platform
    - Engagement rate of members on the platform
    - Number of WoC gaining employment after joining the platform
    - Number of WoC receiving promotions after joining the platform
    - Number of WoC being mentored, sponsored and coached
    - Number fo WoC starting businesses
    - Number of WoC running businesses that are net profitable
    - Number fo WoC running businesses that are providing employment to other WoC
